I used to think that this was my dream car:
Then I started looking at obscure cars, I saw cars like these:
When I look at late seventies to early eighties three-door hatchbacks my emotions start to change. I used to think that the key to automotive happiness had hemispherical piston heads, but now I see that its all about the short, stubby, round behind. Ya their slow, have no cargo space, and can be very ugly, but I love them, I guess. They make no sense for me to buy one, for practical nor for jalop reasons, yet I seem to be drawn to them. Now if only I could cram a 6.4l Hemi V8 into this:
Then I'd be the happiest man alive.

You don't become a hatcherosexual. You're born a hatcherosexual.

Early GTIs give me the biggest want. They're so cool.

What is this adorable little devil!?

I had one of these. Great little cars. My rusted through the rear strut towers and I gave it to some kids.

A Fiat 126 . Essentially, they took the rather-elderly 500, put a weird seventies body on it, and called it done. Adorable, indeed!

what if i told you you could have something obscure, but also something with (potentially) big muscle?
(first is mine, second belongs to the googles)

I'm no ford guy, gut who in their right mind could say no to a hardtop?

Still too much FWD, I like obscure RWD cars.

Why not both?
Put a big block in an Omega/Nova/Skylark/Ventura hatchback. Plenty of cargo room without a ugly stubby rear.

This guy put a 427 into the front of this.

3rd Gen Camaro, muscle hatch. (sorry for the beater photo but it shows what I'm talking about)
Or maybe C7 (and C6)
These are in my eyes Hatchbacks (window opens with trunk door)

Haha, it's a cool car, it wasn't what I was initially looking for, it just ended up being awesome and irresistible. I love that it's clearly a 60s muscle car, but also clearly different than most of them.
And the "What the hell IS that?" at car shows is awesome

how about this

That Uniqueness makes it pretty cool.

I really enjoy being the only Montego at a car show. I've found a 68 Torino that is fun to park next to and mess with people's minds

In my area any Ford muscle car, excluding the Mustang (even though that is a pony car), are very rare. So Torinos, and Cyclones, and your car are rarely ever seen here. Mostly just GM and Mopar. So to me you definitely have rarity in your favor.

We have a lot of Fords, but yeah the GM/Mopar crowd is definitely more popular.
My car is technically a Cyclone btw, it has a Cyclone Grand Touring Package.
But I know you were talking about the stand alone Mercury Cyclone model.
I can normally find at least a Torino at a show around here, and commonly find a Falcon a Fairlane and a Galaxie.
I'm the only Montego around, and I still haven't seen a late 60's Monterrey around at a show.

Get a barracuda it has hatchback and v8.

Hmmm, that 69 Chevelle.

Haha, yea was a decent/average example. The coolest "background" vehicle was this Old Ford Van with a mid-engine well built 302:

That thing is pretty wicked.

I'm actually struggling to remember if it was a 302 or a 351. If I see him out again this summer i'll find out

Goddamit. It was a Beetle with a 427 in the front seats.
